Javier Hernandez has remained coy over whether his future remains at Manchester United by saying ‘only God knows’ when asked if he was going to remain at the club.
Speaking after United’s triumph over Inter Milan last night, Hernandez’s comments are the mirror image of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo prior to his Real Madrid move, where he repeatedly said only God knew if he was going to leave, shortly before he joined Madrid.
“The future, only god knows,” Hernandez said with regards to his future.
“There is competition here and I will continue to work hard as I always do.”
Also speaking after the game, Van Gaal chose not to comment when asked if he would consider selling Hernandez.
He said: “That I cannot answer because he is a player of Manchester United at this moment.”
All the signs are pointing towards a departure for Hernandez and with Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid sniffing around him, he won’t be short of potential suitors. Javier Zanetti even took the opportunity to give Hernandez a warm embrace after the full-time whistle, is there something he knows which we don’t?
Hernandez is a great goalscorer and wherever he goes that isn’t going to change but he just doesn’t have a purpose at United any more. It would be unfair to keep him on the periphery if he can go and take centre stage as well.
United have James Wilson and Will Keane who can fight for his spot in the squad so it won’t leave the club in a weaker position and the time feels right because Hernandez doesn’t fit Van Gaal’s style of play.
It’s incredibly been four years since Chicharito joined United and if he were to exit Old Trafford this summer, he’d leave behind a long list of fantastic memories and Chelsea would breath a big sigh of relief. Nothing is yet confirmed but from all the sounds we’re hearing from Hernandez, United and other clubs, a move away looks more like a case of when rather than if at this stage.
