Manchester United drew 2-2 with CSKA Moscow in their final game of the Milk Cup group stages and missed out on top spot.
CSKA took an early lead as their powerful No.9 got in behind the United defence and held off Oscar Borg’s challenge before finishing neatly under Dean Henderson.
United did manage to get back on level terms. Gribbin was involved, playing a through ball to Zak Dearnley and once again CSKA’s keeper was on hand to save the shot but the ball fell to Gribbin who slotted home.
Soon after there was almost a deja vu moment when Gribbin’s through ball to Dearnley was again saved by the keeper but this time Demetri Mitchell‘s shot went wide.
United scored again just before half-time when Charlie Scott played over the top to Rashford who cut inside, feigned a shot and then curled his effort into the far top corner. However, CSKA Moscow pulled a goal back direct from a freekick in the second half and the match ended in a 2 – 2 draw.
That result meant United placed second overall behind Vendee while CSKA Moscow and Partick made up the remaining semi-final berths.
Manchester United were drawn against Partick Thistle in the semi-final which will take place on Thursday 31 July.
