Manchester United beat Partick Thistle emphatically in a 4-0 victory that sees them progress to the Milk Cup final.
Marcus Rashford, who has scored four goals so far in the competition, hadn’t recovered from a slight knock he picked up in the match against CSKA Moscow which saw him leave the grounds last night with ice and strapping on his right ankle.
The first half was a fairly even affair but United made the breakthrough after 20 minutes when trialist Ogo Obi gave the young Reds the lead.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who usually plays in central defence, was pushed further forward taking on a holding midfield role and doubled United’s lead in the second half.
Jordan Thompson, who was excellent in the second half, set up Demetri Mitchell with a lovely pass which Mitchell curled into the bottom corner to give the Reds a 3-0 lead before Thompson then capped his performance with a well deserved goal, the fourth and final goal of the match.
The victory sees United through to the final where they will face Vendee who have won all their matches in the competition. The final will take place on Friday 1 August at 20:00 in the Ballymena Showgrounds.
