Wilson wants Van Gaal to give him an opportunity at Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

James Wilson is hopingĀ Louis van Gaal will give him the opportunity to become part of the first-team at Manchester United this year.

Wilson, 18, was on fire against Manchester City in the Manchester Senior Cup final and he scored all four of United’s goals in the 4-1 demolition of our closest rivals.

It was the sort of assured performance you’d expect to see from a veteran striker in a cup final and Wilson’s stature continues to grow every game.

Last year, Ryan Giggs gave Wilson his first-team debut and he made the most of it by scoring a brace against Hull City at Old Trafford, something Wilson is keen to do under Van Gaal as well.

“I do hope so,” Wilson responded when asked if he thought he impressed Van Gaal.

“I showed him what I can do tonight. Hopefully I can get the call-up to do it for the new gaffer as well.”

It was a shame not to see Louis van Gaal in attendance alongside City boss Manuel Pellegrini because the performance of United’s Reserves as a collective, including Wilson’s individual show, deserved to be seen by the Dutchman.

However, Van Gaal would have had some coaches in attendance and when he gets to see the videos of Wilson, it’d surely be very hard for him to ignore without at least giving him the opportunity to impress him.

By playing the youngsters so much on tour and getting more out of them than most expected, Van Gaal has already shown he is willing to give young players their chances and Wilson is banging on the door of the first-team right now.

Only injury kept him out of the pre-season tour and with another friendly against Valencia coming up, Van Gaal might see that as the perfect opportunity to see Wilson in action.
