Frank de Boer believes Daley Blind deserves a move to a big club and while the Ajax boss made it clear they want to hold onto him, he insisted that if Blind were to leave then the club want to get the best possible price.
Blind, 24, rose to prominence after he continued his fine Eredivisie form into the World Cup and was one of the stand-out performers for Louis van Gaal‘s Holland.
Although Dutch players aplenty have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, a potential move for Blind has got real momentum behind it and De Boer’s latest comments indicate the club are preparing for a bid.
“I’m convinced he will make the right choice,” De Boer said on Blind’s future.
“If he goes to a big club, he deserves it but I thnk it is better to stay at Ajax for one more year. Last year he had a good year and I still think he can improve a lot with Ajax.
“It’s difficult to say no when clubs come with a big bag of money so it is almost impossible. Sometimes also, you need to give the players the opportunity to go as sometimes the train only passes once but we won’t let him go for free, that is for sure.”
There are more than five reasons why Van Gaal will be a big success at United but fresh players are essential to his plans and Blind could well be the Dutch link fans are expecting to see arrive.
Blind has also commented on the United rumours and left the door firmly open for a move to Old Trafford.
“I heard the rumours and that’s it,” he said.
“I don’t know. For now I’m happy here. If another club comes in, I’ll see.
“What I said. It’s just waiting for me and I am happy. If something comes up I will think about it so let’s see what the options are.
“For now, I am focused on Ajax and we will see what happens next week.”
