Report – Marcos Rojo hands in transfer request to force Manchester United move

by Sam Peoples

Marcos Rojo has handed in a transfer request to Sporting Lisbon and told his club he wants a move to Manchester United, according to Sky Sports News.

Reports broke in Portugal this morning that United had submitted a €20m bid for the Argentinian full-back and there are suggestions that Rojo didn’t train with Sporting today ahead of a move to Old Trafford.

Rojo was an important part of a Sporting Lisbon side which exceeded expectation to finish second in the Portuguese League last year and he played in all but one match in Argentina’s World Cup campaign that saw them finish runners-up to Germany. Here are the official stats showing how Rojo performed at the World Cup.

Much like Ander Herrera, Rojo’s name has come as a bit of a surprise and the reports began in the foreign press and with United in action tonight, Louis van Gaal should be able to give some clarity into whether or not Rojo is set for a move to United.
