Marouane Fellaini stole the show against Valencia for Manchester United, coming on as a substitute to score the winner in the last minute.
Despite improving United’s performance in the second half, the midfielder was sarcastically cheered with every touch in a disappointing display by a large portion of the home support.
But the Belgian had the last laugh having taken down a long pass from youngster Tyler Blackett on his chest before calmly finishing past the unrushing Diego Alves.
United fans on Twitter almost unanimously defended Fellaini were happy for player who, despite his struggles, is still Manchester United player and deserves their respect.
Delighted for Fellaini. Doesn't deserve to be made the scapegoat for the Moyes era.

That chest…actually thought, annoying clown cheers apart,Fellaini had a good cameo before the goal. Got involved. Blackett again impressed.

And Fellaini rams it down their throats……

Don't be surprised at the boos for Fellaini. Some of our whoppers booed Giggsy a decade ago

United fans booing Fellaini, I'm not a fan of him but thought we all had a bit more respect than that

It is almost unheard of for Manchester United fans to jeer their own players who have struggled to perform and we hope that Fellaini’s winner will quieten those fans who decided to turn on their own player.
Though Fellaini’s place in van Gaal’s squad remains far from certain it will have done wonders for a player who’s confidence will have been at an all time low coming into the new season.
