The situation surrounding any potential move for Rojo has become very complicated in a short space of time following reports Rojo handed in a transfer request at Sporting.
Since then, Sporting and Doyen Sports, who own 75% of the rights to Rojo, have been locked in a very public confrontation with regards to the sale of the Argentinian defender. The situation has escalated to the stage where there could be legal action taken by Doyen Sports who want to make sure their 75% ownership is honoured were Rojo to be sold.
With the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Ezequiel Garay and Mats Hummels scratched off the list of defenders who could join United, Van Gaal is left with 16 days to secure re-enforcements, putting pressure on any deal for Rojo.
However, Sporting are keen to hold out for Rojo’s full €30m release clause as they only receive 25% of his fee, something which could delay any move for the Argentinian.
