Di Maria has been linked with a move to United for most of the summer and following the arrival of James Rodriguez, his future looks very uncertain at Madrid.
Paris St Germain have already ruled themselves out of a move for Di Maria due to a price but with United in talks with Madrid, there is potential for a deal to be made.
As for Rojo, the well documented complications about his ownership mean any deal with Sporting is likely to be complicated, even if Rojo and United are both keen for him to move.
While fans have become frustrated about United’s lack of activity in the transfer window so far, Louis van Gaal remains confident that deals can be struck quickly: “I wanted to assess my team. I can judge only when I am the coach and I transfer my philosophy and know how they perform.
“So that’s what I am doing. I think that is honest. We have to wait and see, because you can buy a player in 24 hours, believe me. That’s not a problem.”
United signed both Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera within the space of 48 hours so there is certainly evidence to suggest deals can be completed swiftly but with time running out in the transfer window, Ed Woodward will have to move quickly in order to bring in the right players to the squad.
