Angel di Maria’s future at Real Madrid is up in the air after Carlo Ancelotti admitted he didn’t know whether the Argentinian wanted to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
Di Maria played his way back into the Madrid side in the second half of last season and ended up with the most assists for Madrid but it wasn’t enough to stop the European champions bringing in James Rodriguez.
The arrival of Rodriguez, coupled with the rise of Gareth Bale, means Di Maria’s playing time would be severely restricted this season and could lead to him leaving, something Ancelotti is aware of.
“I don’t want to enter into this theme so I don’t lose focus on tomorrow’s game,” Ancelotti responded when asked about Di Maria’s future.
“Di Maria is available like all the others. He may or may not start the game and has opportunities, but like everyone else.
“What I won’t do is put out the same team in both legs. One team will play tomorrow and on Friday I will change it a little.
“I don’t know what Di Maria has decided. But I know that he’s training and that he could help us in tomorrow’s match. Until August 31 it will continue the same way and after that everything will be cleared up and things will return to normal.”
Daniel Taylor from The Guardian believes United are pushing very hard for Di Maria to join this summer and with a deal soon to be officially announced for Rojo, attention may well turn to the tricky Di Maria.
The great news for United is that Di Maria is available and Madrid are happy to do a deal for the right. All United will have to do is match it.
