United are yet to formally announce the move but Sporting’s official press release confirms Nani will be on loan for the 2014/15 season.
For all parties, Nani going out on loan is the best move.
The 27-year-old will get regular first-team football which is the only way he will revive his career, Sporting have a strong addition that will help with their Champions League campaign and United could benefit if Nani has an absolute stormer of a season out in Portugal.
Like him or loathe him, Nani’s talent remains unquestionable and he has the chance to turn over a new leaf back at the club from which he moved to United back in 2007.
There’s every chance that Nani has made his last appearance for United but due to his high wages, which United are reportedly paying, could mean his long-term future lies away from Sporting as well.
Good luck in Lisbon, Nani.
