Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear Real Madrid are happy to sell Angel di Maria and Sami Khedira this summer.
Both Di Maria and Khedira were left out of Real Madrid’s side that lost the Super Cup to Atletico Madrid last night, fuelling speculation of a potential move to Old Trafford.
Ancelotti confirmed has already handed in a transfer request but insisted his absence from the squad to play Atletico was down to a technical decision, rather than anything to do with his future.
“It was a technical decision that we did not need Di Maria,” he told reporters after the game.
Given that Di Maria is one of Madrid’s best players, it’d be more than a big surprise if Ancelotti had left him out simply for footballing reasons, especially given they lost.
As for Khedira, Ancelotti didn’t hide his feeling towards the German midfielder: “Khedira has been given permission to leave, so I am not interested in where he goes.”
In no uncertain terms, United have been given the green light by Madrid to try and sign both Di Maria and Khedira. Whether or not United do remains to be seen but with time quickly running out, United and Ed Woodward have to act fast if any new signings are to come in.
