Within the space of a few days, Angel di Maria has become Manchester United’s top target this summer.
Following Carlo Ancelotti’s admission that Di Maria had handed in a transfer request, the story has developed extremely fast and since the Argentinian winger was left out of Madrid’s squad for the Super Cup second leg, reports suggest Di Maria is close to becoming a United player.
This morning, Sky Sports’ Bryan Swanson and Graham Hunter say Real Madrid want £75m and as Di Maria hasn’t trained with Madrid, the reports have continued to gather pace. That price would smash United’s transfer record but top players cost top money and United are not in the position to penny pinch with so little time left this summer.
Carlo Ancelotti is due to hold a press conference today where he is expected to give an update on the Di Maria situation. With only eight days left in the transfer window, United need to act decisively to secure the signings that could transform the squad into title contenders and bringing in Di Maria would certainly bring some blockbuster back to Old Trafford.
