Manchester United scouts in Holland watched Daley Blind in action for Ajax against PSV at the weekend and are confident a deal has been done to bring Blind to Old Trafford, according to Andy Mitten.
Speaking about Blind, Mitten was keen to point out nothing has been confirmed from United with regards to any deal for Blind but reiterated that the general feeling from scouts in Holland was wholly positive with regards to Blind joining United.
Blind, 24, who was part of Van Gaal’s Holland squad at the World Cup, is widely considered a player who could join United as he is adept both in defence and central midfield, so could add some versatile quality to United’s squad.
“Word among the scouts was that United have done the deal,” Mitten said.
“I’ve not heard that from United but there is certainly talk from Holland that Blind will be going to United. That hasn’t been confirmed.”
Quite why Van Gaal would feel the need to scout a player who he watched with his own eyes for a month during the summer remains to be seen but there are clearly strong murmurings he is on his way to Old Trafford.
After the deal for Angel di Maria is wrapped up, United will have less than a week in which to complete signings so movement would have to be swift and decisive to secure any more signings before the window closed.
