Louis van Gaal is excited at the prospect of having Angel di Maria in his Manchester United side and would like to play him as soon as possible
Di Maria, 26, is now a United player and fans will be expecting for him to hit the ground running this weekend, not least because of his fee (£59.7m) but also because his reputation follows.
Pending the Argentinian receiving a work permit, he could feature against Burnley this weekend and it’s clear something Van Gaal is keen to complete.
Speaking about Di Maria’s move, Van Gaal said: “Angel is a world-class midfielder but most importantly he is a team player. There is no doubting his immense natural talent.
“He is a tremendously fast and incisive left-footed player who puts fear into the most accomplished defence. His dribbling skills and his ability to take on and beat opponents are a joy to watch. He is an excellent addition to the team.”
One of the biggest challenges Van Gaal now faces is making sure he uses the right tactics and rotational policy to keep every player happy without the lure of Champions League football (or the Capital One Cup…).
However, for now, United fans should be just as excited as Van Gaal. After seasons of watching the likes of Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Nani offering little on the wings, Di Maria’s impact could be widespread at United in all the right ways.
