Manchester United have held talks with Sporting Lisbon about William Carvalho and interest in the midfielder has been reignited.
Multiple reports from The Telegraph, The Times and Daily Mail suggest the 22-year-old is being reconsidered because Sporting are now willing to listen to offers less than his €45m buy-out clause in the region of €30m.
Carvalho was strongly considered to be one of United’s main transfer targets at the start of the summer window but only recently has that interest been revived, which is altogether unsurprising given continued concerns about the condition of Arturo Vidal’s knee.
A powerful midfielder whose focus is on winning the ball back at all costs, Carvalho would fill a huge gap at United in midfield as a player of his ilk has been missing from the squad for years.
A fee drop of €15m from Sporting would indicate there has been very muted interest in them from other clubs but puts United in a stronger position to sign him.
