Club record signing Angel Di Maria has expressed his delight at joining Manchester United despite a lack of Champions League football.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined United from European champions Real Madrid but made it clear at his official unveiling that, rather than being deterred from joining United due to the Champions League situation, he is in fact stirred on by it.
“I am very pleased to play for United. I like the team and I wanted to come here even though they are not playing in the Champions League,” Di Maria told the press at his unveiling.
“I want to help the team get into the Champions League. I think I can help and work with the team well. I am very pleased with the manager for choosing me to come here.”
The Argentine is a versatile player who has played both on the wing and centrally at Real Madrid and for his country, something which will help him have a greater impact at Old Trafford.
Di Maria also revealed he does not mind where he plays as long as he is able to help his team, which must be music to Louis van Gaal‘s ears.
He added: “It depends on the manager – where he wants to put me and where he wants me to play. I have come here to work for the team and I am prepared to play in any position.”
