Rafael da Silva has revealed he is close to making a return from injury for Manchester United.
The Brazilian defender was sent home from United’s pre-season US tour with a groin injury and is yet to feature in a competitive fixture under Louis van Gaal.
In his absence, the likes of Reece James, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have filled his position at right wing-back but by the sounds of it, it won’t be long before Rafael is available for selection once again.
United have missed the buccaneering style of play that Rafael would be able to bring to the right wing-back position as Young has been unable to continue his excellent pre-season form in the league.
Last year, Rafael didn’t build on his excellent 2012/13 season but under Van Gaal, there is every chance he can replicate his best form in a new wing-back position and fans will be hoping he can do just that.
