Manchester United have briefed the British press that there is ‘nothing happening‘ with regards to moves for William Carvalho or Arturo Vidal.
The official comments are in complete contrast to reports from the last 48 hours from the likes of Ian Ladyman (Daily Mail) and Mark Ogden (The Telegraph) intimated that interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Carvalho had been reignited.
However, contrasting reports have been commonplace this summer when it comes to United’s transfer activities and these latest comments from the club should come as no surprise.
It was only yesterday that Louis van Gaal refused to name any players he wanted to pursue in the window because he felt it would raise their price, so the club was never going to change its stance by revealing to the press precisely who they were pursuing at this late stage.
Back in January, United were coy and cautious about Juan Mata from Chelsea not long before the deal was complete, so word from the club doesn’t always necessarily reflect the genuine activity that is going on behind the scenes.
The constant speculation this summer has left a lot of United fans frustrated and contrasting reports makes it very difficult to really know what is going on but with only a few days left in the transfer window, it won’t be long before everything is revealed.
