Manchester United have approached Radamel Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes over a possible move according to reports from RMC in France.
Manchester City were considered frontrunners for Falcao but they would more than likely have to offload the injured Alvaro Negredo before any move could be completed.
Both Juventus and Valencia have been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old as well but now United have reportedly made contact with Mendes.
United have already dealt with Mendes this summer as he represents Marcos Rojo but any interest in Falcao would be a bolt from the blue given the need for a central midfielder and a centre back in comparison to a striker.
However ridiculous a move for Falcao would seem in the circumstances, there are a couple of points that could make it an option.
Javier Hernandez is set to join Real Madrid on loan and Danny Welbeck has reportedly been told he can find a new club. On top of that, Robin van Persie may have to undergo surgery this season on a knee ligament issue and if that’s the case, United could find themselves very short in attacking options.
In that scenario, a loan move for Falcao would seem like not too ludicrous an option but at this stage, it could be a classic case of United’s name being used to generate more interest in the striker.
