Going into transfer deadline day, Manchester United weren’t expected to be very active in terms of signing any more players but a move to bring Radamel Falcao to Old Trafford now just needs a passed medical to be completed.
However, murmurs suggest there may yet be another signing made by United today in midfield.
Joao Moutinho has reportedly been offered to United by Jorge Mendes as the 27-year-old is keen to leave AS Monaco. Of course, Mendes is Radamel Falcao’s agent so United will have been in contact with him over the current loan move for Falcao but Moutinho’s name being thrown into the mix is a bit of a surprise.
United were linked with Moutinho back in his Sporting Lisbon days but he has since moved twice to FC Porto and Monaco. Now, those links have re-emerged.
Other than Moutinho, Nigel de Jong is still being named as a potential signing. As AC Milan have just signed Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel on loan, De Jong could potentially be allowed to leave the San Siro and at a modest £10m, it wouldn’t take a large amount to lure him to England.
That being said, there are reports from Italy suggesting De Jong will not be allowed to leave Milan this year as the club still want him as a player.
At this stage, there are contrasting reports with both midfielders and neither may materialise but the fact Falcao was signed completely out of the blue by United shows that deals can pop up unexpectedly out of nowhere.
