AS Monaco’s vice-president Vladim Vasilyev has spoken out about Radamel Falcao’s move to Manchester United and admitted the club wasn’t happy about letting him go so this summer.
Vasilyev explained that Monaco never intended to let Falcao leave but speaking to L’Equipe, he made it clear Monaco couldn’t hold onto the Colombian striker because he asked to leave.
“A farewell to Falcao had already been planned last year? If he went to Real Madrid that could be a correct theory, but it is not the case,” Vasilyev told L’Equipe.
“Whether he would go was a guess, but it certainly was not planned. I understand the discontent of the fans, but this is football, especially if there is an offer and the player wants to leave.
“I’m not happy about this but when he asks to leave, we cannot just hold him.
“We should be proud that our players go to clubs like that, we’re still not at that level.”
Falcao asking to leave Monaco means he joins Angel di Maria, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera in players who have put in transfer requests to help accommodate their moves to Old Trafford, and it means a lot.
Asking to leave shows a player’s willingness and desire to play for United so much so that they help force themselves and from a fans perspective, it immediately shows some passion to wear United’s badge..
