Cristiano Ronaldo has once again lit up the rumour mill in the past couple of weeks by saying the only coach he has a friendship with is Sir Alex Ferguson and has continued to re-iterate he would love to return to Old Trafford in the future.
Every year, Ronaldo leaves the door for a return to United in the future firmly open and this season is clearly no different.
When speaking to Portuguese TV last week, Ronaldo said: “I’m not in football to make friends. The only coach I maintain a friendship with is Ferguson, no one else.”
The 2013 Ballon d’Or winner also spoke this week about his continued desire to play for Manchester United once again after initially leaving the club for Madrid back in 2009.
“Everyone knows that — I have said it many times,” Ronaldo said when questioned about returning to United.
“Manchester is in my heart. I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”
Ronaldo has spoken previously about his close relationship with Ferguson and how he views the man who brought him to England as a ‘Father figure’, and the pair met recently after Real Madrid’s Super Cup win over Atletico Madrid.
Will Ronaldo ever return? Reports from Spain suggest Madrid president Florentino Perez is at loggerheads with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, indicating all may not be well in Spain.
Also, talkSPORT’s Spanish football expert Paul Breen-Turner has said Ronaldo has been left ‘furious’ by the decisions to sell Angel di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Xabi Alonso in the last 12 months and went as far as telling Perez not to sell the Argentinian international.
