Angel di Maria has revealed he had proposals from multiple clubs including PSG, Monaco and Manchester City this summer but chose Manchester United as his destination.
It’s no surprise to hear how many clubs wanted to sign him because of how impressive he was last season in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph and domestically in La Liga.
United’s interest wasn’t even made public until transfer deadline day and it was a real coup to land one of the best players in the world, especially with others interested in signing him too.
Speaking to radio station American Closs, Di Maria said: “I had proposals from PSG, Monaco, Manchester United…even Manchester City were around.
“When you have these proposals, the normal thing would be that the club offered me a new contract, but they said nothing and only wanted to sell me.”
Many critics questioned United’s spending power and whether the club could genuinely compete with the world’s best when it comes to signing top players because in recent years, it hasn’t been the case.
However, Di Maria’s arrival reaffirms United’s stake as a real powerhouse in the transfer market, even without the lure of Champions League football, and the fact Di Maria chose United is indicative of that.
