Nick Powell explains why he forced Leicester City loan move from Manchester United

Nick Powell has revealed he forced through his loan move from Leicester City this summer because he wanted to play regular Premier League football.

The 20-year-old was part of Manchester United’s first-team squad this season but clearly felt his opportunities would be limited under Louis van Gaal in much the same fashion as Danny Welbeck did with his move to Arsenal.

“I tried to push it through with my agent because I wanted regular football, to be more involved in the Premier League, and we thought we would get a better opportunity here,” he explained.

“I am here to get some experience and improve. I could have gone into the Championship and played week in and week out, but the Premier League is the next step and Leicester have given me that opportunity.”

United fans were keen to see what Powell could do with the first-team this season but he was unlikely to get much game time, especially after United’s early exit from the Capital One Cup, so his desire to force through a loan move is understandable.

On loan last year at Wigan in the Championship, Powell was very impressive and if he can get another strong loan under his belt in the Premier League, it bodes well for his future chances at United next season.
