Radamel Falcao has insisted Manchester United was always the club he wanted to join the summer despite interest from Real Madrid.
The 28-year-old was caught in the middle of a media storm on 30 August after a tweet was sent from his official account saying it was a ‘dream come true’ to join Real Madrid.
It was swiftly deleted following claims Falcao had been hacked but was seemingly left on his personal Facebook as it was synced with Twitter.
Regardless of that situation, Falcao has told FourFourTwo that United was where he wanted to go.
“Manchester United had been pursuing me for the past few months,” he said.
“Yes, other clubs like Real Madrid were interested, but I wanted to go to Manchester. It is a great club, with a great history and one that fills me with a lot of hope that I can succeed there.”
For whatever reason, be it finances or a strained relationship with Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes, Madrid pulled out of negotiations to sign him and United swooped.
However, United fans really don’t care what happened previously because Falcao is now a United player and will walk out against QPR on Sunday at Old Trafford wearing a United shirt. That is the only thing that matters for fans, regardless of where he really wanted to move.
