Van Gaal believes United could sign Falcao this summer

Louis van Gaal and Falcao have spoken for the first time about the arrival of the Colombian star striker at Old Trafford.

The 28-year old signed an initial one-year loan deal from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco on deadline day, a surprise to everyone after constant speculation he would end up at Real Madrid or Manchester City.

Falcao was unveiled at Old Trafford alongside fellow deadline day recruit Daley Blind and van Gaal was already confident in suggesting Falcao could join the club permanently next summer.

“We have Falcao on loan this season but maybe we can buy him in the summer.” said the new United manager.

Any permanent deal for the Colombian wouldn’t be cheap given the amount of money Monaco invested in the striker in the first place plus his high wages which United would have to pay in full for the duration of his time at Old Trafford.

Despite Falcao’s age, a permanent deal makes sense given his strike partners Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are hardly youngsters and given the striker’s goal record at Atletico Madrid and Porto, he’ll be on hand to offer first hand guidance to the likes of James Wilson as United strive to continue giving youth a chance in their first team.
