Radamel Falcao got just under half an hour on the Old Trafford pitch as his new side cruised to their first victory of the season against Queens Park Rangers.
The striker replaced the scorer of Manchester United’s fourth goal, Juan Mata, just after the hour mark. The Colombian international got a rousing reception from the Old Trafford faithful from the moment he began to warm up in the second half, despite initially beginning his routine at the wrong end of the pitch.
When United’s new No.9 finally made his bow in place of goal scorer Mata with half an hour to go the 28-year old had a quiet game, almost setting up Robin van Persie for United’s fifth of the afternoon before being thwarted himself by Robert Green after the goalkeeper had initially spilled Daley Blind‘s effort.
Falcao was composed in possession and looked at home among an unusual line-up and certainly one unfamiliar to both players and fans alike. Falcao was assured in his passing and was unlucky not to round off his debut with the fifth goal of an impressive team performance.
