Wilfried Zaha intends to return to Manchester United after his loan spell with Crystal Palace and fight for his place.
Louis van Gaal sent Zaha out on loan back to his boyhood club Crystal Palace after deciding he currently had no place in his first-team squad.
The 21-year-old has been unable to get many opportunities so far at United but remains determined to make a success of it after this year back with Palace.
“I signed for a couple of years at United so the goal is to do my best here for the season and go back and make sure I get back into the team and the England set-up,” Zaha said.
“It is just great to be playing again. There is nothing like being out on the pitch and the crowd singing your name. It was a bit frustrating.
“What am I doing if I am not playing? Sir Alex Ferguson was the person who bought me. He left and people have different points of views on players.
“I thought about leaving for a while. Then I thought: ‘Let’s stay and prove how I can play to the new manager’. He felt it was best for me to go on loan and it was best for me to come home.”
The fact Van Gaal sat with Zaha to discuss his options will have helped him believe that there is a future for him at Old Trafford if he can work his way into contention with a great loan spell back at Palace.
When Zaha was in the Championship, he was an electric player to watch and if he can find that sort of form on loan this year, there’s no reason why he can’t force his way into Van Gaal’s plans next season.
