Rooney: Sir Alex Ferguson is an incredible person

Wayne Rooney has moved to end his perceived feud with former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson by praising the Scot as an ‘incredible person’ and the best manager that football has seen.

Ferguson had a very public fall out with the now United captain in his last season at Old Trafford when Rooney was dropped for a number of important clashes, most notably at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

This sparked the England striker’s reported transfer request for a move away from the club in the summer of 2013, before a reconciliation with new boss David Moyes.

However, Rooney has now remarked that he was very grateful for everything that Ferguson did to help him.

“Sir Alex is an incredible person and manager,” Rooney said.

“He helped me a lot, helped us all. I’m really grateful for everything he’s done.

“It was a great feeling. Sir Alex is the best manager there’s been and for him to recognise my talent and want me to join this club was a great honour for me.

“I’m a strong-minded person and sometimes you have to make tough decisions. No-one else could make it for me. It was down to me whether I left Everton and I made my agent aware and told my parents that I was going to join Manchester United. I had no regrets doing that.

“He certainly helped me a lot and helped us all. At the time I was coming into the squad as a young lad and there were a few other young lads. He brought all that together and made us world champions.”
