Radamel Falcao has revealed he tried to lure Angel di Maria to AS Monaco when he was still a player there and once again thanked everybody for the reception he received on his debut.
The Colombian striker came on for a cameo appearance against QPR at the weekend while Di Maria stole the limelight with a stunning Old Trafford debut.
Both players are in line to play against Leicester City this weekend speaking to Fox Sports, Falcao said there weren’t enough superlatives to compliment how good Di Maria was.
“He’s a key player, compliments are short in order to describe him,” he said.
“When I was at Monaco I tried to get him to join me there.”
Falcao also once again spoke of how much he has enjoyed his time at United already: “It all has been wonderful, the fans since the moment I stepped out onto the pitch and even before they all showed me affection and it’s always great to come to such a big club and have that kind of welcoming.”
As well as the fans, players and Di Maria, Falcao had special praise for Louis van Gaal and believes he is the perfect manager to help maximise his current potential.
He added: “He’s a manager who likes playing good football, he doesn’t leave anything to chance. He brings the best out of his footballers, everyday he’s pushing them to give their best, and that’s great for us.”
