Kevin Strootman will continue to be one of the primary transfer targets for Manchester United in the coming transfer windows, according to the press.
Louis van Gaal has genuine affection for Strootman on both a personal and professional level which is why the rumours will continue to grow in intensity in the build-up to the January transfer window.
Had Strootman not been injured this summer, United may well have already moved for him but it now depends on the Dutch midfielder regaining his fitness if Van Gaal was to try and bring him to Old Trafford.
However, one question to ask is how Strootman is worth but don’t go asking The Mirror any time soon because they seemingly don’t have a clue either:
The Mirror, 19 September – United told Strootman will cost £46m.
The Mirror, 20 September – United told Strootman will cost £60m.
Strootman would not come cheap given how impressive he was for AS Roma prior to his knee injury but what needs to be seen between now and January is whether he can fully recover from that injury. If he can, then there’ll be plenty of clubs interested in signing him.
However, g into next year United will certainly need a bigger squad if Champions League football returns and if he can overcome his injury issues, there probably aren’t many players Van Gaal would want to sign more than Strootman.
Signing Strootman would give United fantastic strength in depth but as for the starting XI, who would get in your United side?
