Angel di Maria has already won the heart of most Manchester United fans with his performances on the pitch but there’s than meets the eye to United’s new record signing.
Back in April 2013, Di Maria’s daughter was born three months premature after pregnancy complications forced doctors to induce her birth and it wasn’t until two months later that his daughter Mia was allowed to go home.
After what happened to his daughter, it changed Di Maria and helped him become one of Madrid’s most valuable players in their Champions League success: “My daughter taught me that everything that appears to be really difficult can end up being easy if you put the effort in and wait for the rewards.
“She transmitted so much energy to me and it helped me to have the spectacular year that I had.”
As you can see from the Leicester City game, Di Maria wears shinpads adorning his daughter and wife’s faces on as a reminder of what’s close to his heart:
United has always been about the family feel so Di Maria will feel right at home at Old Trafford.
