Goals from midfield have been a rare commodity at Manchester United in recent years.
Far from the heady days of Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Nicky Butt and the likes scoring for fun, United’s central midfielders have been misfiring for a long time.
However, change is on the horizon thanks in no small part to our new Spanish sensation Ander Herrera who has now scored two goals in his last two appearances. When was the last time you could say that about a central midfielder at United?
Both of Herrera’s goals were decent finishes too.

Add Angel di Maria into the mix as well as Daley Blind who looks like he is capable of popping up with the occasional goal? That’s a far cry from Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini who together possess the goalscoring threat of a grapefruit.
Sure, the feeling among United fans right now is not one of unadulterated optimism but who expected it to be just five games into Louis van Gaal‘s reign? If there’s a positive we should take it and a return of goalscoring midfielders is a massive one.
