Carlo Ancelotti has responded to growing reports that Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy at Real Madrid by insisting the striker is ‘happy and very motivated’ with the current European champions.
Reports from the British press yesterday intimated Florentino Perez would be willing to sell Ronaldo, 30, for £60m in order to cash in on the current Ballon d’Or holder before his value drops.
As has always been the case, Ronaldo has refused to rule out a return to Old Trafford but Ancelotti has labelled current reports as ‘nonsense’.
“Cristiano is happy here, very motivated to be here, and all madridismo is delighted with him,” Ancelotti said. “So these [reports] are nonsense.
“He is the best player in the world, without doubt, and has been for a long time. He has been showing great professionalism, character and leadership.
“We must enjoy him and do everything to keep him in this physical and mental condition — as he will help us to win trophies.”
It is only September but there has already been a swathe of reports from both Spain and England that Ronaldo’s relationship with Madrid, and Perez in particular, has soured.
No club in the world has the ability to renew and replace quite like Madrid and they did precisely that this summer by letting Xabi Alonso and Angel di Maria leave but not before James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos were signed.
That being said, Ronaldo is on a different level but if the reports are correct that his relationship with Perez is far from rosy, then a potential exit exists.
Which bears the big question which we posed earlier this week – would Manchester United be willing to fork out £140m over four years to re-sign Ronaldo?
