Predicted XI: Manchester United vs West Ham United – Shaw debut

by Tom Newbold

David de Gea – Absolute no brainer.

Rafael – Rafael is set to remain the only defender in the same position from last weekend.

Tom Thorpe – Hard to pick Rojo’s partner but we’ve gone for 21-year-old Thorpe, although it could well be 19-year-old Paddy McNair.

Marcus Rojo – United’s only fit centre-back so he’ll certainly start.

Luke Shaw – Shaw should get his first United competitive start with so many out through injury.

Daley Blind – Blind will be essential in dropping back and providing good defensive cover in the absence of three senior centre-backs.

Ander Herrera – The Spaniard will need to put in another tough shift in midfield to compensate for United’s weakened back line.

Angel di Maria – Di Maria perhaps remains not quite fully fit but his quality is essential to United at the present time.

Wayne Rooney – With Falcao and Robin van Persie up top, Rooney is likely to remain at No.10 over Juan Mata.

Radamel Falcao – Falcao is another still in the process of building fitness but 70 minutes a week ago will help his cause.

Robin van Persie – It would be a surprise to see the Dutchman dropped, but he needs to improve on recent performances to keep his striker position.

Formation: 4-3-1-2
