Van Persie: Falcao, Rooney and I are stronger together for Man United

Robin van Persie wants to play alongside Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney for Manchester United and feels the trio are stronger when together.

There has been much debate as to how Louis van Gaal would fit all of his attacking players into the same XI and so far the Dutchman has chosen to leave Juan Mata out of his side in favour of Wayne Rooney in the No.10 role.

So far this season Van Persie has underwhelmed as he is still some way short of full match fitness but speaking to Fox Sports News Australia, the 30-year-old striker insisted the trio could work: “We want to play together. We are constantly talking to each other [on] how we can improve our game together. Everyone feels that we are together that we are stronger.

“It’s quite interesting to see one of those conversations because we all have the target. We want to win games. We want to share success. I don’t think we have a confidence issue if I’m really honest.”

As is the case sometimes in football, it is not always simply a case of the best players making the best team and that could be said about United’s current situation.

Mata can feel aggrieved to have been dropped in favour of Van Persie given how well he has played but if Van Persie maintains the belief that he can work alongside Falcao and Rooney, Van Gaal more than likely shares the same sentiment.

Van Gaal opted for Van Persie, Rooney and Falcao as his front three against Leicester City last weekend and there is every chance he will choose the same team for West Ham’s visit on Saturday.
