Manchester United potential formation vs Everton: 4-4-2 diamond with Mata

Manchester United’s game against Everton at Old Trafford this weekend is the toughest match of the season so far on paper.

Off the back of a hard fought 2-1 victory over West Ham, Louis van Gaal‘s side will come into the fixture with some real confidence but will face strong opposition in Roberto Martinez’s Everton who will also be confident after earning a point away to Liverpool.

The major change for United on Sunday will be due to Wayne Rooney‘s suspension and the prime candidate to take his place is Juan Mata.

Given how well it has worked for United so far since the arrival of new signings, Van Gaal is more than likely going to stick with the 4-4-2 diamond formation and simply play Mata in the No.10 position Rooney would have otherwise occupied.
