Van Gaal asking Strudwick and Thornley to withdraw from England duty for Man United

Louis van Gaal will withdraw Tony Strudwick and Rod Thornley from their part-time duties with the England team in order them to get their full attention on their job at Manchester United.

Both Strudwick and Thornley had been part of the fitness team with England but Van Gaal doesn’t want them to have any distractions from their job with United, so has asked them both to stop after England’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia.

This move by Van Gaal is seen as a direct response to United’s seemingly never ending list of injuries. Currently United have nearly ten first-team players out of action with injury and it left him with only one fit senior centre-back for the West Ham game last weekend, which is why Tom Thorpe and Patrick McNair had to be called into the side.

Given that United unveiled a brand new medical centre earlier this year with claims that it contained the best technology around the world, the continued swathe of injuries has come as a bit of a surprise.

Last year, United’s goalkeeping coach Chris Woods had split loyalties with the USA national team under David Moyes. That won’t be the case under Van Gaal as he wants his staff thinking about nothing but United and it can only be considered a good thing for the club.
