Van Gaal could play it very defensive with Darren Fletcher or take a punt on the likes of Anderson, Michael Carrick or Marouane Fellaini for different reasons, but there’s one midfielder who is a stand-out candidate from the Under-21s: Ben Pearson.
The 19-year-old midfielder would offer real tenacity and energy similar to Herrera. Think of a more mobile Michael Carrick, a player who focuses on breaking up the opposition and possesses the ability to get the team moving forward, that’s what Pearson can do.
