Manchester United’s academy XI under Louis van Gaal

Louis van Gaal has given so many youngsters an opportunity at Manchester United this season that you could now make a whole starting XI out of the ones he has used in the first-team in some capacity.

The Dutchman made a promise to promote academy graduates into the first-team this season and has stayed true to his word so far, something that previous managers have failed to do.

In the midst of an almost traditional injury crisis, Van Gaal has turned to United’s youth to plug the holes and some players like Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett have exceeded expectations.

It’s a testament to Van Gal for giving opportunities to youngsters who have then grasped it with both hands.

You could also include the Keane twins William and Michael as well as Nick Powell because Van Gaal has also used them at various points this season.

Promoting the youth is part of what makes United such a special club and so far in his short tenure as manager, Van Gaal has delivered.
