Van Gaal confident Man United’s board will continue to back him: “Of course I’ll be given time”

Louis van Gaal has pledged that he will see out the full three years of his contract at Manchester United and insisted he has every confidence he will be given time.

After some shaky performances this season, some of the media have jumped onto the Dutchman’s back and questioned whether he is the right man to take United forward.

Instead of being phased by the criticism, Van Gaal simply stated he didn’t ask to be given the United job and expects the board to fully back him over the next three years as he looks to bring the real United back.

“I have signed a three-year contract and, believe me, I shall finish that,” Van Gaal said.

“Of course I’ll be given time, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. I didn’t have to come here. They asked me.

“It’s not going to be done all at once. There is a trajectory and a process of three years.”

United’s board certainly showed their faith in Van Gaal by giving him over £150m to invest in new players this summer and that isn’t something they would have been prepared to do without believing in his philosophy.

As is always the case with big changes, it takes time for them to fully settle. We’re only a few months into the Dutchman’s tenure as United manager and the team hasn’t yet clicked properly but there is a confidence that once it does, United will be a force to be reckoned with.
