David de Gea‘s utterly world class save against Everton gets better every time you watch it and especially when you realise just how little right he had to reach the ball.
De Gea’s greatest strength has always been his shot-stopping ability and he showed that with aplomb against Everton yesterday with a penalty save as well as two world class saves, including his last gasp leap to tip Oviedo’s shot over the bar.
What makes the save that bit more special is the starting position De Gea was in prior to Oviedo taking his shot.
Check out his position here:
De Gea was getting up after diving for a save just a moment ago. He was off balance, his feet weren’t planted and he was almost in a crouched position.
Yet, despite all of that, De Gea had the agility and speed to reach Oviedo’s shot to tip it over the bar with a strong hand that ultimately gave United all three points. People will be talking about this save for years to come, and rightly so.
