Angel di Maria has had quite the impact on fans since his arrival this summer and it seems like he has had a similar effect on Manchester United’s players.
Speaking to the BBC Match of the Day magazine, Blackett revealed that some of United’s players have been left in awe of his skills and are amazed by his ability in training.
“He’s been amazing,” Blackett said.
“He’s one of the world’s best players and the things that he does in training really make us stop and stare.
“The dribbling, the close control, these are things that a lot of players would like to have, but that not everybody’s got. He really is special.”
On the pitch, Di Maria’s has been nothing short of spectacular. As Blackett points out, his dribbling and close control are a cut above most players and the Argentinian has a rare ability of somehow being able to run faster with the ball than without it.
It’s a testament to the impact Di Maria has had that some of United’s squad are in awe of what he is doing but one thing Blackett is keen to directly challenge Di Maria for is free-kick duties.
“Hopefully further on into the season, you’ll get to see me take one,” he added.
“I’d certainly be happy to if the opportunity came up.
“For now though, Angel’s the expert so I’m just looking up to him.”
Blackett may have some way to go before he can get ahead of Di Maria in the free-kick taking pecking order but it’s fantastic to hear anecdotes about the impact the Argentinian is having on the players as well as the fans.
