Ander Herrera is settling down very well at Manchester United and is extremely happy after making his move from Athletic Bilbao in the summer.
The Spaniard was close to joining last year before a move fell through thanks to United refusing to meet his release clause but Louis van Gaal secured his man this year and he certainly hasn’t looked back since.
Herrera was impressive in the pre-season and after recovering from an ankle injury, his exploits in September earned him a Player of the Month nomination and a place in WhoScored’s European Team of the Month.
Speaking to ManUtd.com, Herrera explained how much he has grown to appreciate the sheer size of his ‘dream’ club.
He said: “I always had a lot of respect for United. I knew that it was one of the best clubs in the world and one of the most recognised and most followed – I saw the statistics for that,” he recalls. “It’s a dream for me to be here but I have to work very hard if I want to be an important player at this great club.
“I have really enjoyed things and I am very happy, and I now understand how big the club is. In America on tour there were a lot of people supporting us and now in Manchester, when we play at Old Trafford and you see fans around the city, I understand even more.”
Herrera has endeared himself to United fans both on and off the pitch with his attitude and demeanour. Like Javier Hernandez, he has an infectiously positive approach and it seems to rub off on those around him.
Louis van Gaal made huge changes to United’s squad this year and Herrera was a big part of it. From what he has shown so far, he’s certain to be a big part of it for years to come.
