Angel di Maria’s chip against Leicester City has been chosen as Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for September.
It won’t be a game that fans look back on with any fondness given the 5-3 scoreline but Di Maria’s wonderful chip was certainly a moment to saviour, if only for its sheer audacity.
The club award is the second Di Maria has won in the last week having also been named Player of the Month for his extremely impressive performances that saw him score three goals and create three more with assists.
We’ve already discussed it in detail before but Di Maria’s start to the season has more than exceeded expectations and he has already set himself a very high standard which fans will be hoping he will only continue to increase as his fitness improves.
“It’s up there as one of the best in my career. It was a nice finish,” Di Maria said about his goal against Leicester.
“You need to be able to react quickly to score a goal like that. It’s all about making the decision on the spur of the moment – it just comes to you.
“I was happy to score but not so happy at the end of the game because we lost it. But it’s one more goal in my career.”
