Benfica manager Jorge Jesus thinks the world is yet to see what Bebe can do after a frustrating four years at Old Trafford for the Portuguese winger.
Bebe’s transfer was looked upon as odd given United paid a reported £7.4m for a player who had previously been playing in the Portuguese Third Division.
His first season at Old Trafford saw him score two goals but his performances were largely underwhelming and at times bordering on comical.
A loan spell to Pacos in Portugal last season though saw Bebe put in a string of impressive performances littered with world class goals amidst late goals for his inclusion in Portugal’s World Cup squad and Jorge Jesus believes he is simply a slow developer.
“Tiago [Bebe] never experienced youth development,” Jesus told Portuguese newspaper Record.
“He was introduced to football late and he lost a lot of time in England.
“Tiago’s development will be equal to Talisca’s, Matic’s and Andre Gomes.
“They were all late bloomers.”
Bebe eventually left United for Benfica on a permanent deal this summer after impressing Portugal’s top clubs during his loan spell.
He’s yet to make a permanent break into the first team at the Portuguese giants but it appears Jesus sees no reason why the winger can’t one day return to England and impress as Matic has done.
