The trio certainly give United one of the strongest attacking trios but Herrera firmly believes United can’t rely on just three players to score the goals and feels midfielders must do more to chip in.
Herrera was one of six new signings to arrive at Old Trafford during an unprecedented summer of spending and the Spanish midfielder has already scored two goals in the early weeks of his United career.
“I want to try to score more goals,” he said.
“It’s very important for the midfielders,” he told the November issue of Inside United.
“I like assists as well and I think we have maybe the best three strikers in the world here in Rooney, van Persie and Falcao.
“Juan [Mata], Angel [Di Maria], Adnan [Januzaj], Daley [Blind], Fletch [Darren Fletcher] and me are all going to help them try to score, and if I score of course I’ll be very happy.”
Goals from midfield is certainly something the club have struggled with since Paul Scholes ended his career with Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Anderson and several others failing to score on a regular basis.
All that has changed this year though. Juan Mata has scored eight goals during his short time at United whilst Herrera and Di Maria already have five between them having only arrived at the club during the summer.
There is no set return date for Herrera yet as he continues his recovery from his rib problem and fans will be hoping the influential midfielder returns for United’s first major tests of the season against Chelsea and Manchester City.
