Luke Shaw helps England U21s qualify for Euro 2015 tournament

England’s U21s beat Croatia 2-1 tonight and 4-2 on aggregate to qualify for the 2015 European U21 Championships.

Luke Shaw completed the full 90 minutes on both occasions and played a key role in helping them overcome a tough opponent in Croatia to qualify for the tournament. It was the toughest fitness test Shaw has faced since returning from injury and he passed it.

The 19-year-old dropped back down to England’s U21s with the blessing of Louis van Gaal and the decision was completely vindicated given England’s success.

Shaw will take some real confidence from his performances for the U21s and the value of knock-out football, at any level, cannot be underestimated so it puts Shaw in great stead for West Brom away next Monday.

Prior to the play-offs, Shaw insisted he would be happy to go with England’s U21s to the 2015 European Championships next summer, so that should be some more great experience for him as well.

Later this week, we’ll be taking a look at what other United players could feature for England’s U21s in the tournament including Nick Powell, Jesse Lingard and Wilfried Zaha.
