Cristiano Ronaldo has a release clause of €1bn built into his Real Madrid contract according to his agent Jorge Mendes.
Rumours over Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford have been rife for several years now and were heightened this year after reports of a soured relationship with Madrid president Florentino Perez.
They were further fuelled by Sky Sports journalist Guillem Balague who stated recently that ‘everything is in place’ for the Portuguese international to return to Manchester United and Ronaldo himself has done little to silence the rumours, claiming he’d always be open to a return to Manchester due to his history with the club.
However, Mendes has poured cold water on any Ronaldo exit and explained it would ‘impossible to get him out of Madrid‘ and now revealed why.
Speaking to Spanish daily sports newspaper AS, Mendes said: “I no longer get calls from anyone asking about Cristiano. It’s not worth them calling to ask for it.
“The price is that stated in his release clause – €1bn (£785m).”
That puts the prospect of Madrid being unable to stop Ronaldo leaving Madrid to bed then, meaning the only way he could leave the Spanish capital would be with the club’s blessing.
